Periscope Data + Sisense. The Comprehensive Business Analytics Solution

Just about seven years ago, my co-founder Tom O’Neill and I created the first iteration of Periscope Data as a side project. As we worked on building other business ideas, we needed a better, more efficient way to look at our data and clearly see how our business was performing. It quickly became clear that the platform we created was our best idea – the one that could truly make a difference with businesses looking to get fast insights from their data.

In the years since, we’ve evolved from a simple way to type SQL and get charts into a full-fledged analytics platform used by the most advanced data teams in almost every vertical market. Our customers are routing cars around cities, routing ships around the world and learning which text messages save lives — to name a few of the complex data questions they answer every day that were impossible to explore at all until recently.

We couldn't be more grateful for our extraordinary team, humbled and honored by our phenomenal customers and proud of the business we’ve built. Yet there is so much more to be done. Our mission has always been to turn data teams into superheroes. Increasingly, that means not just answering the hard questions and solving the hard problems, but operationalizing those answers and those solutions to thousands of business stakeholders, customers and the world at large.

Data is going mainstream. It is no longer just the province of the advanced data analysts, scientists and engineers who we have been so proud to call our customers. Increasingly it is the province of everyone in every part of an organization. And we owe it to those salespeople and marketers, those engineers and businesspeople, to make sure that the most sophisticated, most advanced results and conclusions from the data scientists make it to their desk.

That is why we are so excited to announce today that Periscope Data is joining forces with Sisense. We have gotten to know the team at Sisense very well over the last few months and years, so we know that they share our vision for comprehensive business analytics and advanced data for everyone. Sisense is the leading business intelligence platform on the market, specializing in BI solutions that take disparate data sources, mash them together and provide interactive visualizations of the results. By combining forces, we’re creating a comprehensive business analytics platform that can serve every data user and team at a company, from a data scientist to a sales manager.

Today, we often see customers using a hodgepodge of solutions to meet their full business analytics needs: one product for data ingestion, another for advanced analytics, yet another for visualization and reporting, and on and on. Being customer focused is a core value of ours at Periscope Data, and we must admit, a grab bag of point solutions is not the best thing for the customer. By merging with Sisense, we’ll be able to offer the industry’s most powerful and complete end-to-end analytics platform, meeting all of our customers’ data needs in a single solution. Providing a more full-spectrum product has been part of our company roadmap for a while, and this move will greatly accelerate the speed at which we get there.

I want to be really clear: the Periscope Data product is not going away! We will continue to build and develop our roadmap, while integrating it into the combined Sisense platform. The Periscope Data and Sisense platforms are perfectly complementary to each other — two pieces that join together to form a unified, complete product. Our shared focus on customer success is the cornerstone of both cultures, which will help make the integration even easier.

Let me add one more note on a personal level: It has been my privilege to learn that building a tech startup can also be an opportunity to improve the culture of our industry as a whole. While we have never been perfect, we have been fortunate to work hard on a more inclusive culture, and to build a team that more broadly represents the population at large. I'm so glad to find that the leadership at Sisense supports these goals, and I look forward to working even harder at making them a reality.

The teams at Periscope Data and Sisense know that together, we can build something that’s even greater than the sum of its parts, and we can’t wait to bring those benefits directly to our customers. With two great teams, industry-leading technologies and a relentless focus on our customers, we’re confident that we will achieve great things together.

Harry Glaser is the Chief Marketing Officer and General Manager of San Francisco at Sisense, the world’s leading independent platform for analytics builders. He was the co-founder and CEO of Periscope Data, which merged with Sisense in May 2019. Prior to founding Periscope Data in 2012, Harry was a Product Lead at Google AdWords and graduated from the University of Rochester with a bachelor’s degree in computer science.
